Recently the release of the new Blink-182 album got me thinking. It has been 8 years since their last effort!!! So, I wanted to have a moment to appreciate all the great, fun, sometimes goofy and plain terrible things that the year 2003 gave me, and hopefully you too. (Let me add right off the bat, that it is probably the least documented year of my life, so it will be pretty hard to remember).

First off, I was soooo punk 🙂

My newly found best friend Elaine were pretty much inseparable and it all started with our mutual love for The Offspring. Fortunately for us, the new Offspring album came out that year, so we had 12 more tunes to sing while walking up and about Toronto.

Like this one:

And… ta-da!

We also wanted to form a band that would’ve sounded something like Jack off Jill, and call it Suck & Swallow. We also wanted to start an online magazine called Thingy, and even made a website, but .. ummm… never wrote anything cause we were too busy going to punk shows.

It was also the year to discover all the cool goth-y underground stuff, like Johnny the Homicidal Maniac and Jack off Jill, and i lived and breathed that. I actually still don’t know if that made my confusion and depression worse or better. But I am glad those bands and books to my disposal, cause I can’t even imagine what kids are listening to today to counter the pop-culture? Blood on the Dancefloor? (Now, that’s a very scary thought).

On that thought, albums we were listening to in 2003:

The Lost & Found, Rasputina  Give Up, The Postal ServiceSing the Sorrow, AFI  (it was a love/hate relationship), Just One More, Mad CaddiesDix Infernal, Moi dix Mois  (just a little bit, i never really got into j-rock), Meteora, Linkin Park (it was kinda hard not to listen to it since it was playing everywhere), Sleeping with Ghosts, PlaceboElephant, The White StripesOpeth, DamnationThink Tank, BlurElectric Version, The New Pornographers (whaaa?, i’m such a hipster), The Golden Age of Grotesque, Marilyn MansonExplode, The UnseenBlackout, Dropkick MurphysDeja Entendu, Brand New (i still think that Sic Transit Gloria is an amazing song), De-Loused in the Comatorium, The Mars Volta (that one was BIG for me), Friends of Mine, Adam GreenEthernaut, The CruxshadowsUnstable, AdemaOld World Underground, Where Are You Now?, MetricThe Fiction We Live, From Autumn to AshesBilly Talent, Billy TalentAbsolution, MuseWWIII, KMFDMThe Antidote, MoonspellTransatlanticism, Death Cab For CutieRoom on Fire, The StrokesDespierta Los Niños, Mindless Self IndulgenceSplinter, The Offspring.

We were watching:

So, a dark, but fun year it was.

Hey, I don’t suppose you have a picture of me from that same Offspring appearance? I think I might have taken that pic of you and you might have taken a pic of me too, but I am not sure anymore. Can you check if you have anything?
